Apparently, when Showa-era men were asked what dish they'd most want their future wife to cook, nikujaga came in at number one. Or so the legend goes. 😄 The kind of taste that wins over anyone who tries it. The meat varies — beef is the standard in eastern Japan, pork is more common in the west.
